NATURAL SCIENCE - YEAR 4
UNIT: LIVING ORGANISMS
LESSON: RESPIRATION IN PLANTS - INTERACTION IN PLANTS
Let's start our lesson doing our Unit's song:
Now... Think about this question:... Why are plants so important for humans and animals?
They are very important because they produce food for us and because they produce oxygen.
When do plants produce oxygen?...
Plants produce oxygen when they do photosynthesis.
Now let's think... Plants are living things and living things need oxygen to live... So... How can they do that? How can plants produce oxygen and consume oxygen?
... Well, they have two processes:
PHOTOSYNTHESIS: When plants do photosynthesis they take carbon dioxide from the air and produce or expel oxygen... They produce a lot of oxygen
RESPIRATION: When plants do respiration they take oxygen from the air and expel carbon dioxide.
This picture shows us this process:
Humans and animals have reactions, right? We can feel, we can move... We interact.
Now... Do you think that plants have reactions?
Yes, they react to water, to light (moving to get sunlight) and some plants react to physical contact... Watch the plant on this video... It's called Mimosa and it reacts to physical contact:
Yes... Plants also have the function of interaction...
